据中国日报，央行研究人士近期一致认为，更高的利率将有助于挤出资产泡沫、抑制债务扩张。中国日报援引央行官员称，在不考虑借贷成本的情况下，潜在的加息和去产能的推进将进一步改善工业企业的投资回报。
去年下半年以来，央行研究局官员在公开场合多次谈及利率问题。
去年10月，央行研究局局长徐忠在谈及去杠杆问题时指出，降杠杆并非利率越低越好。徐忠称，低利率容易加剧资产泡沫，引发脱实向虚。
去年年底，纪敏在“2017中国债券论坛”上发表演讲时指出，去年三季度以来的利率上升总体上是良性的，现在的利率不是高而是低多了：
从长期看，利率取决于由实体经济投资回报率决定的所谓均衡利率，从这个较为根本的角度，我们现在的利率不是高而是低多了。
2017年回顾：通胀回升 汇率走强
在经历了2017年年初的回落之后，中国CPI全年持续回升，从低点0.8%缓慢上行至近2%。与此同时，PPI维持“高位震荡”，全年持稳于5%上方。
